Chapter Six
“I’m worried about Celeste.” Holly began to chew on a nail, stopped. “We’ve barely spoken all day.”
Lincoln unlocked the door to their own glass igloo cabin and checked the room. Safe. He ushered her inside, out of the cold.
“She looks like she’s thinking deep thoughts,” he managed. Even though Celeste was one of the most competent people on the planet, Holly spent a lot of time pampering her aunt. “She’s going through a big change, retirement and all that.”
Holly dropped her luggage on the table. “I think it’s more than that.”
“Well, she seems really into that guy from Berkeley.” Linc set down his load and locked the door behind him. Not that he hadn’t investigated that guy from Berkeley backwards and forward. Okay, he pampered Celeste, too. She was very pamper-able.
He held his breath, letting Holly’s exhaustion pass through him. He couldn’t fix this for her.
Man, he hated that. He lived to fix things.
Although. He could fix part of it.
Linc shrugged off his white oxford shirt, leaving him in a sleeveless tee-shirt and charcoal pinstripe trousers. The room was cool, but his plan was now in motion. He saw Holly’s gaze catch briefly on his tattoo before she turned her tired eyes back to the fire. Between the implied contempt in the bribery attempt and Celeste’s distance, she’d gone into her mind. Linc stretched out, preening a little. He knew what courtship displays she liked and knew how to distract her. “Come talk to me while I shave.” He held out his hand.
For a moment, she stared but soon recovered. “Sure.” Holly followed him to the small bathroom off their glass-roofed room. She lowered the toilet lid and sat down.
He placed himself in front of her. Slowing down his usual speedy undressing, he unbuckled his belt. With a hiss of leather, he drew it from the loops. He draped it around her neck.
She clasped both ends of it and slid it back and forth behind her neck. Slowly, he unfastened the top button of his dress pants and pulled down the zipper. He smiled as she followed the path of the little metal tab. The pants landed on the floor and he stepped out of them. He adjusted the semi-sheer briefs she’d given him last year for Valentine’s Day. He’d been embarrassed when Holly had given them, but her enthusiastic response had changed his mind. He hoped the black underwear would do the trick. Kick-starting her pleasure would be a siege, a campaign of sex.
Determined, Linc bent over, his hip within a few inches of her face. He splashed the hot water on his cheeks and chin. Instead of wiping up the excess, he let the trickles of water roll down his chest. Next, the shave oil. The barber Holly had sent him to had been very clear on the proper way for him to shave.
He leaned against the counter and whisked the brush around the soap he kept in a tin cup. She dropped her gaze to his arms, then to his chest.
